To be uncomfortable

Living here full time,  we can afford to schedule our trips across the water for days likely to have flat seas. Nothing is so important that we need to be uncomfortable… We schedule most of our dentist appointments, medical testing and city visits for months with a greater chance of good weather. By good weather I don’t mean sunshine, I mean calm winds.

We have had heavy winds and torrential rains, I am quite surprised we haven’t floated away. Several of our neighbours had appointments today so they went to town yesterday to avoid the predicted lumpy seas. We didn’t know we had to go until early last evening.

Monday the transplant team contacted E to check on his recovery. We were still comfortable with his progress and told them so. Last night his GP called to check on him.  The progress wasn’t as he had hoped so he wanted to see E today. The seas weren’t as lumpy as they had predicted but they were worse both going and coming home, than anything I have driven in. I put on my big girl panties (and life jacket) and away we went. I don’t mind hitting the waves dead on, it’s like riding a horse.. I hate when they are behind me and the boat begins to surf… Ug. But I did it… It is nothing for my friends who live here and have spent their lives on the water… But for this city girl it was out of my comfort zone and a big step on my learning curve.

This morning, E’s GP called his cardiologist and they all had a little chat. E had more tests and new meds ordered. We have three more potential causes for his symptoms and a new plan to take care of him while he either gets better or worse.  (It is like an episode of the TV show House)…..I trust these men implicately and am comfortable that this problem (E) will be resolved.

Hopefully,  E will be good as new with his new meds after a weekend with our daughter watching movies in our pj’s. As a precaution, we are going to the big city next week for more tests and to meet with the transplant team.

Stormy seas or no stormy seas, E needed to see the Doctor today, and it would have unduly added to his fatigue for him to drive the boat, so I did.  Apparently, there is something  someone so important that I am willing

to be uncomfortable

  1. Our hearts are with you; fingers and toes are duly crossed.
It’s amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. I never dreamed of spending my retirement years hauling gas and propane into a boat by myself and then driving the whole shebang to an off-grid island. But if I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have met all the wonderful folks who call it home. Just remember to take care of yourself too.
    Hugs.
