New beginnings..

I am not really a New Years Resolution kinda gal anymore… I never experienced significant results from my efforts when I did resolve to learn another language or pay off my bar bill on January first.. So I stopped trying…

This year, my fifty-ninth, I am going to try something new… A couple of birthday resolutions to start tomorrow. I am going to further simplify my life, sew a quilt for our bed and learn to chalk paint furniture…

To that end.. I bought a beautiful sewing machine off Craigs list for 75.00… It is a sturdy older model which has been well cared for and in mint condition.. I got the impression that the older woman selling it was only doing so because her children bought her a new fangled machine… She was unhappy to part with this one and in fact called me the day after we took it home to see if we were happy with it… “because she would take it back if we wanted”…..

Once I learn to sew and then, learn to make a quilt, I want to paint the furniture in our bedroom.. No rush then on the learn to chalk paint resolution. It will probably take me years to thread the bobbin on my new to me machine, let alone sew the quilt.

The easiest goal to achieve tomorrow will be to further simplify my life.  I am cancelling my facebook account. The data I use for facebook is ridiculous for no valid reason. This is a heads up if you are interested in continuing to follow this blog at all, and believe me I understand if you have more interesting things to do with your life. I keep this blog as my own personal record of our life here.. The fact that some of you like to read about our goings on is as surprising as it is flattering.   3. Yea! I love the idea of birthday resolutions. You will love the zen of quilting (at least the hand stitching part if that works for you). Also, I learned from watching neighbours J&AW that a half hour (+?) of reading after lunch is a lovely way to help create a balanced life. 🙂 Happy Birthday!
