First thing I did when I got back to the island was have a tomato, cream cheese and basil sandwich.. Totally against the FED (friggin Eileen diet).. but it is the sandwich of my dreams.
Yum yippity yum.
We are getting a handful of tomatoes per day.. I haven’t had a moment to start canning yet and in all honesty, there isn’t much to can. We have been eating all of our daily harvest.
We have company coming for the weekend. We will stay at SoHo with the weather predicted to be gorgeous. We have had negligible rain since May. Our water supply is very low so a few days at the other house comes at a good time. Our plan is to increase our water storage with a couple of additional 1500 gallon tanks this winter… Never again will my garden suffer like it did this year… It is a dust bowl up there. I am not watering anything but the tomatoes and everything else is suffering…
The summer is coming to an end. Neighbours are discussing plans to return to their winter homes. Our daughter is organizing her life to return to university and our thoughts are turning to winter projects. I don’t have any difficulty finding things to do in the winter. The mandatory projects/chores are endless and most of last winters leisure craft projects remain on my shelves unfinished. I don’t feel guilt when my artsy side sits unchallenged. Living on the nature channel last winter meant putting down my knitting needles and picking
up my camera
I’m with you. The pictures take priority. Got some good owl pictures tonight -a young barred owl sitting in a tree right beside the house. He started on the rung of a ladder outside our bathroom window. He scared the living daylights out of me staring through the blinds as I was on the John!

Our sister and brother in law saw one standing on our lane at the coffee shop sign around 8pm… I’ve never seen one before… Considering the name of our lane you would think it would be a more common occurance 🙂
